How to Hack FireStick – Content Index

FireStick is good and all, but it’s somewhat limited. Being an avid streamer demands more content to be present on the streaming platform. That’s why I’m here to show you how to jailbreak your Fire Stick in this tutorial.

Is It Illegal to Hack A FireStick?

Given that the Amazon FireStick is your private property, you are free to do with it as you wish like doing. For example, downloading Kodi on a Fire TV is completely legal.

However, you can potentially get into legal trouble for watching pirated streams or using illegal Kodi addons. This is why we do recommend using a VPN on your Fire Stick. That way, your ISP can no longer see what you are doing online as you’re completely anonymous.

First Step: Hide IP on FireStick

The first step of hacking your FireStick is the most important. You need to install a VPN in order to hide your IP address to prevent your ISP from spying on what you are watching on your FireStick. This means you will not get copyright infringement notices regardless of what you are doing online.

Not many VPNs work on the FireStick. However, ExpressVPN does. So, if you want to enable VPN on your Fire Stick, I’d suggest signing up with ExpressVPN. Once done, follow these steps.

ExpressVPN are one of the first VPN service providers to have a dedicated VPN app for the Amazon Fire TV and FireStick. Setting it all up is pretty straight forward. The VPN app itself is free, but you do need an account to sign in. Let me help you out with the process:

  1. To kick it off, sign up with ExpressVPN
  2. After that, turn on your Amazon Fire TV and navigate to Apps.Go to Apps
  3. After that, visit Categories and then Utility.Select Utility
  4. On the next page, choose ExpressVPN’s application. You can use the search option for a faster approach if you want.
  5. Now, click on Get and install the application.ExpressVPN Fire Stick
  6. After that, launch the ExpressVPN app and sign in with your VPN credentials.Sign in with your Account
  7. Now, choose a server and connect. If you’re just hiding your IP, any server would do.Choose a Server
  8. Wait a few moments for the connection to take place. You're Connected
  9. Finally, you’re using FireStick with a hidden IP.

Step Two: Hack FireStick with Kodi

There are several ways you can use to jailbreak your Amazon Fire TV Stick. Setting up Kodi on it is the most popular.

Installing Kodi on your FireStick doesn’t require much of you. All you need to do is follow a few steps and you’re there. Oh, in order to do so, you need to install ES File Explorer, otherwise, this won’t work.

Get File Explorer on your Fire Stick

So I already mentioned that you need File Explorer for the process. Let’s get down to business:

  1. As a first step, head over to Developer Options. You’ll find that in your device’s settings.
    FireStick-DeveloperOptions-1
  2. Turn “Apps from Unknown Sources” on.FireStick-Unknown-Sources-1
  3. Click on Turn On.
    Turn On
  4. Use the search feature on the main page of your Fire Stick.
  5. Type in ES File Explorer.ES File Explorer Download

Hi Meka. You need to pin the Kodi app to your Firestick’s home screen:

On your FireStick home screen, scroll down to ‘Your Apps & Games’.
Now scroll left and select ‘See All’.
Locate the Kodi app and press the button with 3 horizontal lines on your FireStick remote.
      Click on ‘Move to front’.
Go back to your FireStick home screen.

  5. I am trying too jailbreak my Firestick, when I get to downloader he say I need a billing address, I created an account without one.

  6. Ive had problems with my firestick. Kodi had been installed on my firestick previously by a family friend and pretty sloppily too. Ive restored the firestick to its factory restored condition. My question is should i register my firestick directly under my name and account information for personal use or find an alternative at the reset kodi, es downloader, etc.

  7. I’ve downloaded Ivanish, ES file manager, and kodi within the ES file manager as instructed. My problem is that I can’t launch the Kodi app from the ES file manager. Any suggestions?

  8. Trying to connect IPVANISH, it’s been about 15 minutes and hasn’t connected yet. How long does it usually take? Is this normal?

  9. I downloaded Exodus and obviously Kodi. While in Kodi, I launched Exodus and selected “in theater” and found a movie I wanted to see but when you select it, it will run a little while then tell me “No Streaming” what does that mean? Am I needing to do something in addition to the aforementioned steps? Please help…

  10. I am on step 3 # 12 and it does not give me the option
    repository.smash-x-x-x.zip
    I have -smashRepo.zip
    -smashwizzard(check for updates after installed).zip
RepoCollus(use this or if you want go right to the girthub
should i use one of these?

  11. I figured out how to reset the whole firestick, to start over. Hopefully it erased everything I just did. But I still don’t know why I didn’t get the same message that was written for the repository for Exodus. I’ll use the second method this time. Thanks for making the instructions so clear.

  12. ugh! I am right there! I had Exodus almost installed using method 1, but then my remote kind of froze up. I also never received the repository.smash.xxx.zip part. I had a repository but not the same version. I don’t know how quickly these things change. Maybe I just bugged my whole brand new fire stick. Is there a way to reset to factory, and start over, if necessary?
    Thanks.

  13. I got all the way to step 17 in the alternative method but the only exodus in the list is ExodusFR which is for French speaking viewers. I did this twice with the same result. What’s wrong?

  14. The first time I tried this it said to use Up vanish VPN. The promo code didn’t work. I went back and uploaded the instructions again, and it said get bullet VPN. Now the instructions are for Ipvanish again. Can I use bullet VPN?

  15. Hello! Thank you for sharing these instructions. I’ve tried adding Exodus, but I never get notification that it’s ready. Could I be doing something wrong?

    1. Just so you know where I am at I can find the file kodi-17.3 krypton-armeabi-v7a(1).apk when I click on it I have 3 choices cancel market or install when I click install I get a notice “for security your tv is set to block installation of apps obtained from unknown sources. 1. Charles Roswell

On your Fire TV, go to ‘Settings’ -> ‘System’ -> ‘Developer Options.’
Turn on ‘Allow apps from unknown sources.’

        1. Mark esielionis

I was able to get it installed but there is nothing available to stream on any of the options, I followed your link to install covanent but was told it failed to download. Any other options? I am so damn close ( I think)

        2. Mark esielionis

It shows on and I went trough the process again and got a message in the right hand corner failed to download app from zip file installing the add on from zip file located at (that is all the message says and then sends me back to the screen
          My add-ons
          Recently updated
          Install from repository
          Install from zip file
          Search

  16. I cannot log into my Ipvanish account. I tried to delete it from my firestick but it just downloads from the cloud and still has the wrong username and password. How can I delete it from amazon and start over.

  17. I cannot log in on my ipvanish account. It never asked me to establish a username and password and not It doesn’t recognize anything in username or password fields.

  18. So I currently use the installed app my friend originally put on my firestick almost 2 years ago which was TVMC. Not sure if a “VPN vanisher” was installed or not. Is there a way to check? It also has Exodus installed but I keep getting a notification after choosing the stream to “go online and pair”. Do I really need to do this? Plus should I continue using this TVMC app or move to the Kodai app? Thanks for the help.

    1. Charles Roswell

Hi. If you have the IPVanish app installed on your FireStick, you should be able to locate it in your apps. As for the need to pair when watching videos on Exodus, I am afraid there is not way around that. This is an obligatory step depending on which source you choose when watching a movie or TV show.

    1. joseph benefield

IM AT EXODUS THE MOVIE COMES UP GOES TO THE STREAM TO PLAY IT BUT THEN SAYS NO PVR CLIENT OR SERVER NOT CONNECTED WHAT DO I DO

  19. I went through all the steps, as I am trying to install Exodus is get to 99% an says “Unable to install due to dependency” what would that mean .. and what can I do to fix it>?

To be sure, once I install a VPN, then any of my legit apps/accounts won’t work? Like my Netflix account that I pay for…?
Of course I understandthat I would get it free after installing JODI anyway…

    1. Charles Roswell

Hi Richard. Your legit apps will also keep working. You can also unblock apps that would usually not be available in your region i.e. unblock BBC iPlayer outside UK for instance.

Help will be appreciated.

      1. Charles Roswell

Hi Josh. Kindly note that we’re not the developers of these addons. We simply post tutorials on how to install them. Having said that, we did test the method posted above repeatedly and it’s working for us. Nonetheless, we’ve also added another method to install Exodus on FireStick in the article above. Feel free to try it out.

    1. I’m stopped at #11 nothing is showing up in my zip file pertaining to #12 step. So close to finishing

  25. Telling me Unable to connect and then Asus it COULD be sure to the network not being connected. What do I do now? I’m so frustrated!!

  26. followed step by step – twice and checked spelling – twice and still get “unable to connect to server” message – about ready to scream!

  27. I cannot access the fusion.tvaddons.ag web address. I see comments on-line that they will be down for a bit. Some say they are not coming back on line. Is there anyway to complete this process without going to the fusion site?

I installed. Ipvanish .app and it said download failed for ES explorer as well. What do I do now?

  29. Stuck at step 3, #10. There isn’t an option called “install from zip file”. Only options are install updates automatically, notify but don’t install, or never check for updates. HELP, I’m so close to be done, just need this last part for exodus.

  30. I found install from a zip file under another heading add-on browser .when I open it I go down to fusion, click on it and nothing happens. Why

  31. I’m stuck on steps 5 and 6. It’s registered, WiFi is strong, step 2 is confirmed, I search ES Explorer but every time I try to download it the screen goes black. What an I doing wrong?

    1. Hi Jodi. Try installing an app called ‘Downloader’ on your Fire TV Stick and then download the Kodi app through that instead.
