How to Watch Sling Outside the US
How to Watch Sling TV outside USA – Unblock Abroad

Due to copyright agreements, Sling TV only allows US residents to access its content. This means that even if you’re a US citizen living overseas, you won’t be able to watch what Sling has to offer.

Geo-restrictions can be frustrating, especially to avid streamers looking to expand the content they’re viewing. That’s why we’ll be helping you out today. Say goodbye to regional limitations – here’s how you can watch Sling TV anywhere.

Unblock Sling Anywhere – Quick Steps

Time needed: 4 minutes

This task is pretty easy. It will only take about 4 minutes to complete. To get Sling TV in your region, the following steps are required:

  5. Launch Sling TV on your device.

Sign in with your Sling TV account.

  6. Watch top American channels wherever you are.

Enjoy Sling TV anywhere in the world.

Sling Anywhere – Full Guide

Getting Sling is very easy. However, there are some details we have to go through in order to shed more light on the entire process. Don’t fret, this review covers it all.

The Requirements

To get Sling TV outside the US, you must make sure you have all of the following:

  • Sling TV subscription.
  • A VPN account.
  • A Sling-compatible device.

Sling TV – A US-based Streaming Channel

The Dish Network-owned channel is very popular in the United States. It had more than 2.5 million subscribers in the country back in 2019.

The channel’s popularity and demand are increasing on a daily basis. However, only those who reside in the US can stream Sling TV’s content.

Even with a valid account, the channel won’t operate overseas, leaving ex-pats and streamers outside the US with nothing but these error messages:

  • “ERROR.” The request could not be satisfied. The Amazon CloudFront distribution is configured to block access from your country.”Sling Error 2
  • “7-600 error. We’re sorry Sling TV is only available inside the US. Thank you for your interest.”Sling TV Error
  • “We’re sorry! We could not authorize video playback. (10-403).”Sling Error 3

Sling TV restricts users’ access to the United States only. In other words, anyone who wishes to stream its content should hold a US IP address, otherwise, they’ll get blocked.

But that can be easily managed with the right tool, which we included in the previous part as we showed you how to unblock Sling TV anywhere in the world.

A VPN – The Ultimate Online Tool

VPN is an alternate solution to unblock all sorts of restricted streaming websites. VPN directs all your traffic through a VPN server located in a country of your choice, the US in this instance.

By doing this, your streaming device will obtain an American IP address. Thus, Sling TV will treat it as it is located in the USA.

  • The main advantage here is that you unblock all geoblocked US channels using one VPN configuration. Unblock and watch US Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, Peacock, Hulu, Vudu, and all other US-only online channels.
  • VPN apps make installing VPN on iPhone, iPad, Android, and PC/Mac a matter of minutes. To install a VPN on other streaming devices, you need a VPN router.
  • While your Internet speed gets a 10% speed penalty, VPN greatly increases your online privacy by encrypting your traffic. No eavesdropping from your neighbor, ISP, or websites.
  • VPN works efficiently even if your ISP uses DNS Hijacking and Transparent Proxies.

A good VPN provider such as ExpressVPN offers good Internet speeds and VPN servers around the world.

However, while our tests put ExpressVPN at the top of the list, there are other providers that showed excellent results. Kindly check them out in the table below if an alternative is needed.

Smart DNS – Another Unblocking Method

Sling TV detects your location and blocks you from streaming its services outside the US. In order to bypass these geographic restrictions, you need to hide your true location.

This is basically what Smart DNS does. After you sign up with a Smart DNS proxy service like Unlocator, you have to change DNS server settings on your streaming device. The values you need to input will be provided by the Smart DNS proxy service you choose.

  • Smart DNS does not change your IP address. This is particularly useful if you visit local websites that are geoblocked outside the territory you live in.
  • Your Internet speed practically stays the same since Smart DNS only has to redirect your connection partially.
  • You can unblock streaming services from different regions without having to change your Smart DNS setup. Watch UK’s BBC iPlayer, US Sling TV, and Canadian Netflix at once.
  • My favorite Smart DNS feature is its compatibility with all streaming devices. Unblock Sling TV on Xbox, Amazon Fire TV, Nexus Player, Smart TV, or Roku.
  • Smart DNS has one small drawback. It won’t work for you if your ISP uses DNS Hijacking or Transparent Proxies. Luckily, not many ISPs do use these methods.

You’ll find a lot of Smart DNS proxy services online. What sets good ones apart, is their reliability and amount of unblocked channels on offer.

The Smart DNS proxy service we recommend is Unlocator. Now, despite the fact that all the VPNs on the table above have Smart DNS as a free feature with their subscription, Unlocator offers it as a stand-alone plan.

In this case, users who are just looking to unblock streaming channels without the extra security can benefit from a much cheaper plan. Not to mention a very generous 7-day free trial.

Get Sling TV on Any Device Outside the US

With a VPN you can unblock the channel’s content wherever you are. Please note that a VPN doesn’t bypass the subscription phase, so you’ll have to sign up for the service.

If you have a US payment method, you’ll easily fulfill the task. If not, try asking any of your relatives or friends for help, they can get you what’s needed.

However, if you don’t have any relatives in the US, you can easily create your own American virtual credit card. That way, not only will you be able to subscribe to Sling, but to other streaming services based in the US.

Now, with that out of the way, here’s how to get Sling on any device you might be operating:

If you happen to watch content on your Android or iOS mobile, you’ll have to use your VPN to connect to a US server. Next, change your app store region to the US in order to get Sling TV.

Once the app is installed, sign in with your account, and start watching live channels anywhere.

On Fire Stick, get the VPN app, and connect to a US server. After that, change your Amazon account’s region to America and download Sling TV. Finally, sign in, and start streaming.

On your desktop device, connect to a US VPN server. Next, launch your browser, head over to Sling TV’s website, sign in, and start binging.

Sling is also compatible with Xbox, LG Smart TV, and Roku. However, to get a VPN connection on those devices, you need to install your VPN on your router.

After that, change your account’s region to the US and download the Sling TV app:

Now that you have the client, sign in, and watch top US channels wherever you are.

  1. Hello, I just moved to Germany. I bought the 4k Amazon Firestick. I got it setup on my TV and saw the Sling TV App but I guess once it connected to my Amazon account it changed the interface to my FireStick to German and the Sling TV App completely disappeared. How can I add Sling TV back on??

    Thank you!!

  2. Hi, I’m going to Argentina and want to take my Roku with me. Do you recommend DNS or VPN in this case? I also have all apple products (iPhone, iPad, iMac) and want to know which is best to use those as well?
    Thank you!

    1. Given that you can neither set up Smart DNS nor VPN directly on the Roku itself, I’d suggest purchasing a VPN-compatible router and setting up the VPN connection on it instead. You can even test the router before moving to Argentina to make sure it works as intended. Another perk of using a VPN router is that all the devices you connect to it will benefit from its VPN connection.

  3. Hi Charles, replying to your message which is as below:

Charles: Hello again. Yes, you can setup ExpressVPN on your Linksys router and unblock American channels including Sling TV that way.

Thanks for your message Charles. can we still set up DNS on any streaming device which is already connected to a router which has express VPN installed? thanks.

    1. Hello Sarfraz. Yes, you should be able to do that. Keep in mind that VPN and Smart DNS don’t tend to work well together though. Therefore, it’s better to keep the VPN connection disconnected whenever you wish to use Smart DNS instead.

  4. Hi Charles,
Replying to your response on my query:

My query:Hi, I am moving soon to Saudi Arabia and wanted to get my sling tv working properly. I have apple TV. Could you please advise on if I should have DNS or VPN on Apple TV? Additionally, after correct set up, any sling channel would be working, right ?
    Thanks

Your response: Hi there. In your case, using Smart DNS would be better. I assume you wish to unblock the American version of Sling TV. Am I right?

My question: Can I use express vpn on my Linksys router and then watch sling tv? As someone suggested me that some ISPs use some hijacking features that prevents DNS to work properly? So If I use vpn installed router, would I be good for sling TV american version in Saudi Arabia?

  5. Hi, I am moving soon to Saudi Arabia and wanted to get my sling tv working properly. I have apple TV. Could you please advise on if I should have DNS or VPN on Apple TV? Additionally, after correct set up, any sling channel would be working, right ?

    1. Hello Vina. Both VPN and Smart DNS will allow you to bypass regional restrictions. In terms of easier setup process though, I suggest choosing a VPN service.

  8. I will be in South Africa and I want to watch the Final Four in April. I need to make sure that my solution works. Any advice. Happy to use any combination of solutions. It is being broadcast on CBS

  9. Hi I have a slingtv account and expresss VPN, but my Roku won’t allow access. How do I synchronize my Roku and get it to work?

    1. Go to the VPN express website and lookup virtual network. It’s an easy way to connect a Roku to a VPN and most laptops nowadays support it.

  10. I have a VPN, and trying to use Sling in Mexico . I get the error message that this program is not available in your area! My BPN is set to USA

    1. Tylee. You can go to myMallBox.com and get a free US address (complete) to use when signing up. It gives you a suite number to distinguish you from others using its service.

  12. Hi there. I get an error when using Sling TV via VyprVPN on my mobile (iPhone 7 plus) lately. When I use Sling on my laptop it works fine, but I keep getting the error message ‘Title is not available in this region. Please try watching something else or try again later (11-1)’. I have tried multiple channels all with the same result, I have logged out and logged in, restarted ect but nothing seems to work. Any help would be great!

  13. I’m looking into getting the Channel Master DVR Plus it also can stream SlingTV but I am in Canada is it possible to use Opera free VPN to do this? I would also like to stream it on Xbox and maybe another device in the same home using the VPN is this possible? Or would the DNS route be a better one? I am also using Rogers internet if you are familiar with that they seem to throttle internet speeds?

  14. I have a WiriePro which serves as a wifi extender and a router. It does not allow the installation of VPN software. How should I go about using VPN or am I out of luck?

    1. Charles Roswell

Hi. VPN is definitely better to use in Saudi Arabia. It offers higher online anonymity and unblocks more websites when compared to Smart DNS.

  15. Hi, I have a fire stick and stream sling tv in the Detroit area. Sling tv let’s me watch fox sports network Detroit so I’m able to watch Detroit Tigers baseball. I have family in Ohio that has a fire stick and we use my Sling tv login to watch tv, but not able to watch the Detroit baseball games because it goes off of your ip address. Anything I can do about that? Thank you

  16. Hi Isso,
I am moving to South Korea soon. I have a Chromebook and would like to be able to get both Sling TV and Netflix there. Which would be better to use Smart DNS or VPN?
    Thank you

  17. I am military stationed in Okinawa Japan, and would like to get slingtv to work out here! I have tried unblocked and some other, but can seem to get it to work. And when I did, it was only temporary. Any suggestions? Sucks being out here with only nextflix to watch. I do have amazon firebox with kodi- but craving live tv.

  19. Rafael (@MyDarkroom)

hi, great post. I am in Canada. I would lime to run SlingTV and Netflix on my AppleTv4. Currently using unblock-us. When I turn my Unblock-us dns (on router or AppleTV), Netflix gives me the error message (even if I set my location as Canada) and SlingTV works.

“You can unblock streaming services from different regions without having to change your Smart DNS setup. Watch UK’s BBC iPlayer, US Sling TV, and Canadian Netflix at once”

    — how do you actually do this?

    Cheers

    Raf

Ps. To make things more complicated: Spotify wont work on Sonos if I am using DNS from unblock-us

    1. Hi Rafael. With Unlocator, for instance, there is an option to turn off Unlocator for Netflix and keep it working for all other geoblocked channels such as Sling TV. I am not sure if Unblock-US offers the same feature. You might want to contact their support team.

    1. Hi Phil. It depends on what’s sports you are interested in. I’d recommend Star Sports since it is free and can be unblocked via both VPN and Smart DNS. If you’re more into American sports, I’d say WatchESPN, NBC Sports, and Fox Sports Go are all pretty impressive. Again, you can unblock all of these using VPN or Smart DNS. You’d still need a valid American cable subscription to watch them though.

  20. Hi Isso, I called my bank and added secondary address I got from mymallbox.com but my credit still isn’t getting accepted. I’m with BMO and using ExpressVPN as my bypass.

  21. I use smart dns and us Netflix works great , but I can’t even create an account at sling tv as it won’t even let me go to create an account page . Also I live 45 minutes from US border ( in Canada) any work around a for the payments if I go to the US for a day . I was just going to get sling tv on an iPhone or iPad app and then use AirPlay on my Apple TV . Is s roku 3 much better

  22. Hi Isso,
I had asked this question on the wrong forum before: I have a house in Costa Rica and I just got an Amazon Fire Stick. I’m not in CR until next week so I’m trying to prepare myself to bring down what I might need. My Sling TV works with no problem in my house in CR on my iPad. It’s not in anyway blocked. I am now reading that this might not be the case with the Amazon Fire Stick. I have an ASUS RT-N66U Router and don’t know if I can use VPN or DNS with it. What do you suggest I need to do to make this set-up work?
    Thanks,
    Linda

    1. Hi Linda. As far as I am aware, the ASUS RT-N66U Router has an option to setup VPN on it, so you could go down that road. Alternatively, You can also use Smart DNS. You can setup Smart DNS on your router or directly on the Fire TV itself.

  23. Hi Isso:

I’m in Panama and have UnBlock-US and Witopia for Netflix and easy access to US department stores. In the past, have not had success trying to log into ESPN or Xfinity using my child’s account (with her permission of course!). This year, I’m trying to get a jump on March Madness — actually, would like to watch the Tar Heels right now and definitely the ACC tournament as well but will settle for March Madness if necessary. Any suggestion of how I can get set up for MM well in advance so I’m not tearing my hair out on the first day of the tournament? I’m willing to change my services.

    Many thanks,
    Jane

  24. Will Sling TV accept non-U.S. credit cards for subscribing to their service. If not what method(s) work for non-U.S. residents to subscribe?

  25. R. William Patry

How can I download the Iphone App for Sling TV? It forwards me the USA store, and says I don’t have an account there.

  26. You mention the technical aspect of unblocking SlingTV but you do not mention the payment part. VuDu, for example, requires a credit card with a US billing address. Is this a requirement of SlingTV? If so, how did you fulfil that requirement? Do you have a US billing address because you have a US residence? Can someone use a Mail Forwarding service to fulfil this requirement(hurdle)?

    1. Actually you should use an American state such as CA and Zip code 90210 for your address. Then use your genuine billing address for the credit card info. That should allow you to stream Sling TV without needing an American credit card.

      1. Hey, have tried that multiple times in the past. It doesn’t seem to work..! Any alternate way to make the payment?

      2. I’ve tried that multiple times but it doesn’t seem to work. Are there any other tips on making the payment ? The technical setup is of no use unless you’re using US credit card.

        1. I have been researching this for a while and it is tricky. Gift Cards are a way of getting around this issue. When you purchase a Gift Card at GiftCardMall.com you can log into your Gift Card account and simply enter any old US address. Just make sure it is a valid address. At that point, you can use it for Sling TV, Vudu, Amazon Instant Video, etc….

The problem is purchasing Gift Cards. The website requires that you pay with a US Credit Card. So it looks like your back to square one but there is definitely going to be a business to pursue in selling US Gift Cards in Canada. I am actively pursuing this and will at some point offer it as an online service along with true VPN router and Roku Box setup for the Canadian general public.

Another way to get around this that anyone can do is to use a Mail Forwarding service for a month and then use that address to set up a US TD, CIBC or RBC credit card account. This will cost $35 to $40 per year. Use mailboxforwarding.com as your Mail Forwarding service. If you live near Buffalo, New York in the US, try using CBI-USA at cbiusa.com instead. It costs $6 per package or mail item. They hold onto the items without charging storage fees. I use them all the time to buy stuff in the US.

          Good Luck Everyone!

          1. hey mate,

I’ve been dealing with the same issues, i am using a vpn & smart dns provider, but all this is useless indeed unless you have an US credit card with an US billing address so you can sub to Sling Tv, Hulu & Netflix…

I see you found a solution and by your saying, if you ever used any US freight forwarding service which provides an valid US address, your saying you can use that address to create an virtual debit card at those mentioned above banks ?

Could you please bring in more details if you don’t mind , as I followed the link to those banks but I don’t see where and how to start an account and get your card ??

My US address provided by the mail-forwarding company is in Florida.

            Thank you,

            Cheers!

            1. What to do is have your Canadian bank add a US address to your credit card. I’ve done this in order to shop in the US and the UK. If you use a border parcel/mail pick-up service (free to register with one) you can give that address to your bank.

  27. I use a VPN to access Netflix in Thailand. I want to be able to access NCAA football this fall. Would this be the way to go for watching ESPN here?

  28. Robert Drzewiczewski

I get a failure to initialize video 2-1 when trying to launch Sling Tv-it worked well enough to set up the account but won’t launch now-help-and sling is no help-hah

  29. Tom Herrington

    HI Isso,

Thanks for the info on the Smart DNS proxy servers and/or VPN use. I travel to Mexico for work and vacation a lot. Will these work for me there with Sling TV?

Also, any thoughts on streaming recorder software to utilize to capture a game on Sling TV(ESPN say) so you can watch it at a reasonable time when you are traveling?

    Thanks,
    Tom
